Bodywork and energywork have historically been used to help with numerous ailments of the body and mind for thousands of years. Defined simply as the application of soft tissue manipulation, there are countless forms of massage that have developed over the years, comprising a vast pool of methods that can be used for endless benefits, be it addressing a specific issue or complaint, encouraging overall well-being and health, or preventative measures. The benefits of body and energy work range from improvement of specific physiological functions to mental relaxation and the nurturing one gains from it. Some of the most commonly reported effects of massage, bodywork and energywork include: decreased stress and anxiety; relaxation; less muscle spasm & cramping; improved circulation and lymphatic drainage, enhanced immune function, lowered blood pressure; improved flexibility, and reduced adhesions & scar tissue. Marisol Mayell

Qigong, Alexander Technique & Franklin Method Instructor

Marisol Mayell, owner of QiJourneys, has been practicing and teaching Qigong for over 20 years. First trained with Master Bruce K. Frantzis of Energy Arts Inc, she graduated from the Healing Qigong Master Program in 2009 with the Ling Gui International Qigong School in Seattle with Master Liu He and Grand Master Dr. Liu Dong. From 2003 to 2012 Marisol taught Qigong for the Integrative Medicine Program at St. Lukes Hospital in Meridian and Boise, Idaho. In addition, she offered Qigong classes throughout the community and workshops in Boise, out of state, and abroad. 

In 1992, previous to studying Qigong, Marisol completed a 3 year Alexander Technique program (1600 hours), encompassing a mind-body method of movement re-education for prevention of RSI injuries, general well being, and more. In November 2016 she completed a one year training in the Franklin Method obtaining a Level 1 Educator certificate. 

Marisol has been living in Clarke County, Virginia since the Spring of 2012; she offers individual and group classes in  Qigong, Alexander Technique and Franklin Method.

Dovanna grew up in a small town west of the Adirondack Mountains in Northern New York.  She graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA, with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and minors in Psychology and Youth Ministry.  After graduation, she moved to Santa Cruz, Bolivia where she volunteered at an orphanage for two years.  Her experiences in Bolivia reinforced for her how important healing touch is to both children and adults and reawakened her interest in therapeutic massage.

Upon her return to the United States, she attended Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage in Syracuse, NY and graduated from their intensive, Full-Time Program (1000-hours) in June of 2010.  Dovanna approaches massage therapy from a holistic perspective; she has been trained in various modalities including: Pregnancy Massage, Reiki, Shiatsu, Sports Massage, Swedish Massage and Therapeutic Massage.  Each session is customized and based on her client’s unique needs.

In May 2011, she founded Shalom Healing Arts and that is where she continues her work today.
